Mark February 12th on your calendars as a shooting day. Unless the weather makes a turn for the worst between here and there we intend to have a falling steel shoot that day. More details will follow as we get closer, but I do know it will be a fairly low stress event for centerfire handguns and carbines only.

This match usually fills very quickly so don't wait too long to get your team together. We will take a maximum of 49 teams this year.

We did increase the entry fee a litle for this year, but we're including t-shirts for all 3 team members and I've got some new tricks up my sleeves. This match is always a load of fun and this year we will outdo ourselves.

We have also figured out several time saving measures to get this match done in a reasonable amount of time this year.

We're doing an optional "play for cash prizes" again this year. That worked out great last year and adds a dimension to the match that some enjoy and some don't. Do whatever your team enjoys there.

3 Gun Rifle Ammo

I use 2 types of rifle ammo for my 3 gun shooting. Primarily as a cost savings. One is what I call "blaster ammo" and it is for practicing up close shooting where accuaracy is not demanded. The other is my "accuracy ammo" which I use for longer distance or more precise shooting.

My blaster ammo is almost always 55gr FMJ stuff that may be factory loaded or handloaded. Loading good rifle ammo is easier than you think and can save you substantial amounts of cash if you shoot a lot. If you're shooting factory ammo then the brand I prefer is the cheap Federal. Winchester is OK. I've shot some S&B with no complaints. Remington UMC stuff works but I have always found the accuracy to be lacking. I've never been a fan of the Wolf or Silver Bear stuff. I've been to Russia and see how they make things. No thanks.

For accuracy ammo I prefer a 75gr HPBT bullet. I've had incredible luck with the Hornady Match ammo, and highly recommend it, but there are other kinds and it can be loaded too. I have also used a good bit of Hornady's Steel Match, which is loaded into steel cases. I've had no problems with it at all and accuracy is very good. How good you may ask? With any of the Hornady factory 75gr loads I expect sub-MOAaccuracy at all distances, and to hit 8" plates at 400 yards every time lying prone using just a magazine for a monopod. It's still pretty impressive out to 700 yards if I do my part.

If the Fun Shoot program is to survive it is imperative that we train a cadre of responsible people to help with the operation, and safety oversight of those shoots. The Fun Shoot program will be greatly curtailed or cancelled if we can’t come up with enough staff to help run the shoots safely and efficiently. More people are needed to help with the action shooting segment of our program as well, and this class will help participants gain the knowledge and confidence to step up into a greater role at those matches.

Therefore, on Saturday Jan. 28th, we will be teaching a 2 part York RangeOfficer class. This is NOT a sanctionedUSPSA RO class, but a class aimed at increasing our Local RO Staffhere at York,with our own special blend of shooting sports.

The day will consist of 2 sections. All participants must attend the first, itwill cover safety, range procedures, commands and enforcement. The second, after lunch, willbe optional and is intended for those interested in action shooting, and willcover scoring, timers, palms, and things particular to USPSA and multigun matches.

This is a serious position at York, so consider it carefully. Uponcompletion, participants will be expected to take on the responsibilities ofsafely running a squad of shooters, have the patience, desire andability to teach new shooters, and the willingness to enforce safety violationswith disqualification.

We will start promptly at 10:00 am at the trapbuilding and we should be done by 2:00 pm. This class is free and lunch will be provided. In order to attend you must be aregular participant in any of our shoots, Fun Shoots, Steel Challenge, Multi-gun orUSPSA.

Preregistration is mandatory.

The instructors for the classes will be Howard Thompson, myself,and other members of our pistol committee so you need not feel nervous or underqualified. We need your help and wantyou to succeed.

January 8th Stake Shoot

The weather forecast looks great for Sunday, for what a weather forecast is worth, so we're moving forward with the stake shoot. Our stake shoot is an event where teams, which we will draw for or make up by some impromptu method, shoot against a similar team to see who can shoot their board in half first. The weapons of choice for this particular shoot will include centerfire handguns, centerfire carbines, and centerfire semi-auto rifles. No holsters will be necessary for this shoot but are encouraged. It's supposed to be 55 degrees so that shouldn't be an issue. All guns must be unloaded and either holstered or cased at all times except in the designated safety area or under the supervision of a range officer.

There is no pre-registration fo this shoot. Just show up. This shoot will start at 11:00am Sunday. The fee for this shoot will be just $5, for all you can shoot until at least 2:00pm. Bring plenty of ammo and all the magazines you have. Stake shooting is wildly fun but can be an ammo intensive sport. I will personally bring 200 rounds of 9mm for my carbine, 200 rounds of 40 for my pistol, and 200 rounds of 223 for my rifle, maybe more. You can bring less. When you're out of ammo you're done, no harm, no foul. There are no prizes at stake, this is just for kicks.

This is our plan for the coming year. All dates and events are subject to adjustment, so stay tuned to this here blog for more info. All pistol matches are USPSA, and the multiguns are our own breed of insanity, way too much fun.

The funshoots this year are undergoing a radical change, and should be more fun and appeal to a broader spectrum of shooter. We have a plan that should appeal to new and experienced shooters alike.

January and February Funshoots have been replaced with Local RO Classes. Each is a 2 part free class, the morning being aimed at training a small Cadre of FunShootRO's to help me on funshoot days in the safety ways of York, then the afternoon will continue as a more advanced USPSA type class for those interested in becoming an RO for our Action Shooting program.

Stay tuned, this is going to be an exciting year.

My thoughts on multi-gun shotguns

Also, a popular subject because of the growing popularity in multi-gun, are shotguns.   This is my take on Tactical or Limited division shotguns (they are the same)

In general:
12 ga is by far the most popular gauge, although there are some 20s. 20s are lighter as a rule and have less recoil. 20 does make major, and would be a lot better for women or people with slight builds. They do however, have less shot generally and slugs can be harder to find and more expensive. The semi-auto is necessary to be competitive. Pumps are cool for hunting and home defense but they are not competitive for action shooting.

Brands:
There are 3 really popular shotguns I have noticed in multi-gun lately. The Benelli M1 and M2 are very popular, and are extremely light and reliable, but I think they have more recoil than the other popular guns. The Remington 1100 or 11-87 are have been around for a long time, and are pretty inexpensive but they are more particular about cleaning.   The FNH SLP is the only one pretty well ready to go right out of the box, but they are also particular about cleaning. For the record the Winchester X2 and Browning Gold are the same basic gun as the FNH, but you don't see a lot of them dressed up for competition.

Features:
The most important feature is reliablility. Next is capacity. You need your gun to hold 9 rounds total, or 8 in the tube and 1 in the chamber. Extensions are available from many good companies though Nordic is the most popular. Barrel lengths between 21 and 24 seem to be the most popular.

Details:
Extended bolt handles and bolt releases can be added  to almost any of the guns. It is very desirable to enlarge the loading port so it's easier to load quickly. It may also be necessary to weld up the carrier so it is longer and more square, or replace it with one that has been done, so it doesn't bite your thumb as you're loading. I like some kind of rifle type sights so that I can shoot slugs accurately. Some guns like the SLP come with them, and they can be added by various methods to any vent rib gun too.

My thoughts on multi-gun rifles

I've been getting a lot of questions on rifles for multi-gun shooting lately, and I thought maybe this will help some of you make more intelligent decisions based on my experience. I've been shooting 3 gun and multi-gun since the early 90s so I have seen a lot in that time.

Rifles:
-.223 or 5.56mm? There is a difference but it is negligable. Don't worry about that.
- The AR-15 platform is most popular and there are more options available, but if you are really hung up on a SCAR or something else it may work, although they are typically more expensive.
- A flat-top receiver is important for getting a scope mounted well.
- 18" seems to be the best barrel length, but 20" is good and 16" does work if you're not shooting past 300 yards. Stainless is supposed to be more accurate than chrome lined, but does not last as long.
- Piston or Direct impingement? Piston guns are supposed to be more reliable, but in my experience DI guns work perfectly, so I don't see spending the money.
- Quad rails or handguards, stocks, grips? All whatever fits you and pleases you aestetically except I really recommend that your handguard be free-floating. (does not touch the barrel)
- Most stock AR triggers aren't bad, and they are easy to upgrade later.
- There are many good brands of ARs out there. Colt, Rock River, DPMS, S&W, Remington and Stag are reasonably priced. There are much more expensive ones too. If money is no object I suggest the JP enterprises. If you have $1200 or so to spend then the Stag Model 3 looks like it is pretty well set up for multi-gun right out of the box. If you find a nice deal on something cheaper it as easy to upgrade your rifle later. The two keys in my mind, because they are expensive to change later, are barrel length and the flat-top upper receiver.

Rifle optics:
- You are allowed one optic in Tac Ops, the most popular division, and you want to get the most out of it. So you want a variable power scope.
- 1x-1.5x power on the low end of the power range. True 1x power is really nice on close targets.
- 4x-6x power on the high end. 4x is usually enough out to 200 maybe even 300 yards. 6x is better out to 500.
- I like a pretty plain reticle. All that Ballistic reticle, or ranging reticle stuff gets confusing. Mine has a regular cross-hair with an illuminated dot in the center. Keep it simple.
- I like adjustable turrets. When the targets get far (out past 250 yards) and small I like to adjust rather than hold off.
- The least I would spend on a scope is about $275. For that kind of money you can get a Nikon M223 1x-4x and I have one on one my rifles. I like it and would not be afraid to use it out to 300 yards. It has a plain crosshair reticle with a dot in the center (not illuminated) and adjustable turrets. It is accurate and durable.
- In the middle you have some Leupolds, Meoptas, Trijicons, and Vortexs that all cost several hundred dollars but are popular in action rifle shooting.
- At the top of the line is the Swarovski Z6i. $2200 new. I paid $1600 for a used one (they're around). This is the one. It is a 1x-6x power scope with a daylight visible illuminated reticle and adjustable turrets. I don't think there is a better scope at any price. I would buy another one tomorrow if I had to. I'd go without food if need be to buy one. And that's not just my opinion. At the last major multi-gun I attended almost half the scopes were Swarovskis.

Mounts:
- The popular choices here are Larue Tactical and Warne. There are some other good mounts around but the important thing is that the front extends out over the barrle a little. This allows you to mount your scope forward and get a proper eye relief.

These are my opinions and I'm sure there are some different thoughts. Be sure to comment. I'm interested to read what you have to say.

Recent 3M3G questions with answers

- Can I use a drop leg holster? Yes, just about anything but shoulder holsters or cross-draw holsters is OK providing they cover the trigger guard and retain the firearm.

- Did I read somewhere that each member of my team has to use each gun twice? Yes, it will lead to less specialization. Everyone must be able to use every gun, but there are plans that allow your team to use your talents wisely and hide minor deficiencies.

- Is it a big deal to change divisions? No, you can change divisions right up until 9:00 am Sunday. You can also buy into the "shooting for cash" option.

- We're worried one of my teamates might not show up. What should we do? Show up anyway. We'll get you hooked up one way or the other. Nobody is going home without shooting. Then find a new guy you don't ave to worry about for next year. We'll be having two 3 man 3 guns at York, Topton is planning on having 2, and there will be one at Peacemaker too. This sport is starting to take off and there's no room for guys who can't be counted on.

3 man 3 gun update

There are only a couple days until the team 3 gun and I want to share some last minute information. Things are looking great and we are excited about this match. We have laid in thousands of clay birds, over 2000 drink bottles, prepped every piece of steel we own and done as much as we can to prepare our club.

This match will occur rain or shine, and although it is supposed to quit raining tonight and be clear on Sunday, it is raining here now and has rained for days. They are warning of possible floods, and we have not recovered from the September flood completely yet. Expect the ground to be muddy, but we will put stone in the free fire zones wherever anyone has to run. I suggest bringing boots, or shoes that may get wet, and a dry pair for the ride home. You may not need them, but it is better to be prepared. It may be cold, the forecast ids for the low 30s so dress appropriately. We may start some burn barrels if needed.

We will not be supplying food or drinks. The stat shack where we usually have food and drinks for sale was severely damaged by the flood and we have not gotten it fixed yet. Please bring drinks and food if you want them. There will not be an opportunity to leave the range and there is nothing real close so please take care of getting what you need on the way in.

We need everyone there not later than 9:00am. We will start the set up of the three front pits at 8:00am. Please come help if you can. Everyone must check in at registration (stat shack) by 9:00am. You may gear up after checking in. At 9:30 I need all the team captains to meet me at Pit 1 (the one with the white trailer) for the captain's briefing. The captains and I will do a quick, but mandatory walk-around to look at the stages and hopefully we'll be back in time to start shooting by 10:00am.

Firearms handling rules. It will be OK to load firearms into carts or holster handguns in the parking lot for this match. That is not how we usually do things at York, but it is common in the world of multi-gun. Please do not handle firearms and ammunition at the same time, this includes ammunition in magazines. Keep firearms pointed in a safe direction at all times. Sweeping people with unloaded firearms is still unacceptable. It is best to use a chamber flag, but open actions are OK, when transporting firearms. Cases and carts are preferred but slung in a safe direction is OK. We don't have a bunch of rifle racks at York yet, so keep that in mind.

Want to change to shooting for money? That's cool. Just pay the difference at check-in. There are several teams in Tac Ops, but only one in Limited and Outlaw. The more the merrier. The more teams there are shooting for cash the deeper it will go.

The written, text only, walk-through supercedes all other stage drawings and descriptions. The official walk-through in the sheet protector on each stage is the only one that matters. As in most matches things changed when they hit the ground. These changes are not huge, but we have to do what is needed. The written walk-through should be fairly easy to understand. We will go over all of them at the captain's breifing so every squad should remain consistent. Every squad will have 6-7 captains who were present for the breifing.

Safety is the most important thing. This match is going to be a ball. You won't believe it. It's like Top Shot meets multi-gun (and meets the Special Olympics for some of us ). The stages we have up so far look really cool, and it should be as much fun to watch as it is to shoot. Bring video cameras. But, we must never lose sight of the fact we are playing with very serious toys. Firearms are potentially dangerous. Be very vigilant. Watch what you are doing and look out for others. Advise others how to handle firearms safely as needed. Help them understand the safest way to shoot the stages. When you are the RO if you see something unsafe happening stop it. After it is stopped we can figure out whether it is a DQ or a reshoot, but don't hesitate to stop the shooter(s). I would rather give a million reshoots than have one person injured.

Spectators are welcome. They must wear eye and ear protection at all times just like the competitors. Like I said this should be a good match to watch.

One or two of my guys cancelled, what do I do? Show up anyway. We will figure out a way to get you on the range. I have a couple possible solutions. No one is going home without shooting.

While I don't find this as unusual as the Zombie Shooters Association I think it is interesting. I particularly like how you can only shoot with one hand, you can just switch guns instead of reloading, and you can shoot a course of fire as a good guy (shooting all the brown targets) or a bad guy (and shoot all the white ones instead). I don't like shooting 1911s without beavertails though.

We are hashing out the details of next year's schedule and there are a lot of considerations. We do a lot of different kinds of shoots at York. The MASC, the PASSC, USPSA matches, Fun Shoots, Steel Challenges, Rifle and Shotgun matches, Special Classifiers, and Team 3 gun matches. The difficulty is making them all fit into the schedule. We are prioritizing now, and some of them might be dropped or at least scaled back.

FNH Multi-gun

I'm glad to see you all were able to carry on without me. I knew you could.

I have been asked about the match I attended and thought I would update you. The FNH Multi-gun was phenomenal. You really need to put it on your calendars for next year. No, really, it is September 19-23, 2012. Mark those dates now. I'll need help and you need to shoot it.

9 great stages of open terrain (no berms) and regular pits were an excellent test of all your shooting skills. The facility is amazing. 2300 acres of all kinds of ranges and fields, and woods to shoot in. Hard to believe it's only 2 hours and 20 minutes from Stewartstown. You can drive from range to range and operate right out of your vehicle.

We got to play with some cool toys. An FN303 was featured on one stage. It's a less-lethal device kind of like a paintball gun on steroids. Another stage had a PS90 bullpup 5.7x28mm and it was fun to shoot. A SCAR heavy 10" suppressed was the prop on another stage. I need one of those too. But the most popular stage gun of all was the Barrett MRAD in 338 Lapua. Holy smokes! We had to shoot a steel silhouette at a measured 1/4 mile to start the stage and it was just a piece of cake with that thing.

Now we get to the prizes. Friday night we had the staff banquet and the staff was given over $15,000 worth of gear by my estimation. This includes a SCAR with all kinds of accessories, a DPMS 3 gun ready rifle, an FNX pistol, and an FNS pistol that is not even on the market yet, and an 11" Samson AR upper. All of the staff was very pleased. They also got some cash to offset expenses, free rooms, and free entry to the match. They did work their tails off, so nothing was actually free, but they were very appreciated by myself and the competitors.

Saturday night was the competitor banquet and the prize table there was simply mind-blowing. There was $245,000 in gear on those tables, including 107 guns! This would be divided among the 238 competitors with the guys at the top naturally earning more, but the guys who finished at the bottom still got their entry fee or more in prizes. I was 68th in Tactical Optics and still won a gun.

I gave up my Range Master job so in 2012 I could be "Assistant Match Director in charge of Operations" (sounds impressive doesn't it?) so I'll be the guy in charge of staff, and improvements to the way the match is run. If you're interested in helping next year let me know. I'm looking to add a lot of staff making the jobs easier for everyone. I'm also looking for 3 Range Masters. If you were there this year and know of ways to improve I want that input too.

Steel Challenge Sunday

There are currently 45 guns signed up for the SC on Sunday. There are a few more slots available, but I wouldn't wait too long to get signed up if you haven't already.

A couple observations:
- Carbine is huge. Everyone must have realized how fun it is.
- Both Rimfire Scoped and Iron sighted are very popular too. Everyone must have figured out how inexpensive 22s are when compared to centerfire.
- Everyone can't shoot on Robby Orent's squad. I understand he launched some kind of Facebook page campaign. Many thanks to Robby for promoting our match, but there are going to be about 20 disappointed people. (and 6 or 7 lucky ones, and I can be bribed)

The weather forecast is for clear but cool Saturday. It's going to be a great day to shoot rimfire or carbine. Besides the reasons stated above, you don't need a holster and belt for rimfire or carbine. I'll just carry my mags in my jacket pocket, and my pistol in a gun rug, and I'll stay toasty warm. look at me, using my head for something other than a hat rack this time.

On Sunday, October 30th we will be hosting a 6 ~ 7 stage, 175 round +/- STEEL CHALLENGE match at York Izaak Walton in Dallastown PA.

Ammo used must be below 150 power factor. NO EXCEPTIONS

Two types of entry fees as follows:

No-Payout Entry - Shoot the match without any chance of winning money: $15 per gun.

Payout Entry - Shoot the match with a payout to winners: $ 30.00 per gun, Max 2 guns. 100% payout minus entry fee $ 15.00 per gun.

If you want to shoot one gun as a No-Payout entry and the other as a Payout Entry you can. Monies you would owe at registration are $ 45.00. Shooting two guns as a Payout Entry you owe $ 60.00. Shoot two guns as a No-Payout Entry is 30.00. It’s like this; if you are a betting man, go for it!

On Sunday, December 11th we will be hosting a 3 man team 3 gun. If you haven't tried one of these before you really should. There is nothing more fun in all of shooting.

The application is available at http://www.yorkiwlaipsc.com/forms/York_3m_3gun_Fall2011.pdf It is a fillable pdf. Fill it out, print it, and send it in with your check.

New for this match:
- The match fee is $90 per team, but you may opt to pay an additional $90 which goes to a prize pool and all of the money in the prize pool will be paid out.
- No paper targets. We will be using all steel, drink bottles and clay birds. Reactive targets are fun and it should speed up the match.
- Every team member must shoot all three types of guns a minimum of twice in the match. i.e. shotgun 2x, rifle 2x, and pistol 2x minimum.

We will only be taking 56 teams so do not hesitate to start rounding up your team. If you need team members let me know and I will help you round some up. There all always some loose people waiting around.

My son Ben did very well, and none of the things that were so messed up effected him much so this is not a sour grapes kind of thing, just an observation.

First off, you know I'm a communication guy. I like everyone to know what's going on, and like to know too. I'm sure the fact that there were dozens of languages involved at World Shoot doesn't help, but the dissemination of information was horrible. Squad lists weren't final until into the first day of shooting. Schedules of times to be places and doing things were posted sporadically if at all. Website updates, even for those who had access were non-existent. There was an easel in the hotel where stuff would be posted once in a while, but not enough and not often enough. The vast majority of our information came by word of mouth often several people deep. So you know how accurate that was.

I'm also a punctual person. I'm never late, and I like things to start on time. Nothing at WSXVI started on time. Sometimes things were a hour or two late. Waiting around kills me and there was plenty of it. Sometimes 4-5 hours a day.
We were hardly ever done on time it goes without saying. Both afternoons we shot we finished up in sub-standard light. Many shooters had to shoot their last stage the following morning.

Shooting in the USA has me spoiled. I am used to the rules being followed. Particlarly by the match officials. Several stages were changed in the middle of the match. For instance: there was one stage with pull handles that opened ports for the shooter to shoot through. The intent was probably to make the shooter shoot strong hand through one, and weak hand through the other. Early in the match someone figured out that the cords were long enough to hook the loop handles over a door knob, so that it could be shot freestyle. For a day and a hlf that's how everyone shot it. Then the CRO decided that it wasn't what the intent of the stage was so they shortened the ropes. No more hooking them. They didn't consider that changing the stage. Throughout the match they added no-shoots around swingers, moved targets, and changed the angle of a slider. There were at least 10 of 30 stages changed. They should have been thrown out. Only one was.

The one that was thrown out was a stage that Eric Grauffel thoroughly trashed. He lost enough points on that one stage that he would not have won the match. He searched the stage for something wrong. He found a screw that had come loose on a prop (less than 1/4 inch I was told) and arbitrated it. AND WON! The stage was removed from the match.

Eric G. had three bad stages. He got the one thrown out and the other 2 he got reshoots on for BS reasons. The one he had an alpha-mike. The RO showed it to him, he acknowledged it, and it was pasted. Then a minute later his dad wanted to see if it was a double. Of course it had been pasted. He arbitrated that his dad never got to see the miss and was of course given a reshoot.

On another stage he got a perfect double on a 25 yard swinger. On another EG got 3 hits that clearly went through a wall. After that all walls were declared soft cover if you asked, but not if you didn't. That was halfway through the match by the way.

All in all we had a good time and Ben shot very well. All the US shooters did, but the way this match was run was very dissappointing.

We got back last night and I slept for 16 hours. I've never been so glad to be back in the USA. Glad we brought home medals to show for it. I'm very busy getting caught up but I will post some details when I get a chance.

One interesting thing about the match: We run a far superior match at Izaak Walton to the World Shoot. It was the most disorganized, poorly communicated, inconsistent, and fraudulent thing I have ever been to. Eric Grauffel is a cheater and IROA is complicit with him.

On another note: There is some question as to the shooting schedule through October. This is the final word on that subject and supercedes anything else you may hear or have read - The fun shoot is on Saturday, October 22nd and the Steel Challenge is Sunday, October 30th. Period.

Now we are stuck in the Athens airport where it looks like we are stuck for 16 hours until tomorrow mornings flight to Zurich then to Philadelphia. We can't wait to get home.

Oh yeah, how did the match go? Ben was 3rd junior behind a 20 year old (Shane Coley) and a guy from Austrailia who turned 21 yesterday. Not bad for a 16 year old. He was 35th overall out of 364 of the best open shooters in the world.

USA did great.

2 of 5 days complete. Ben has not been perfect but is doing very well. All of the juniors are. I'd be very surprised if they don't bring home a team gold. US shooter Shane Coley is lighting it up and should win junior. He's 19 but still a junior by international standards and a nice kid and leader of our junior team. KC and JJ are reportedly doing well and Eric Grauffel is not. Maybe the US can take back the title.

On another note we are sick of Greek food. We miss Wendy's!!

World shoot update

Sorry I'm not able to post pictures. Access is sketchy at best. Using iPod to post. Takes to long to type too. Shooting has begun but Ben was scheduled off 1st day. He shoots the next five days and I'll keep you updated as possible. The important thing is we made it and the guns did too. We are through equipment check and ready to go. Stages don't look too tough. Reminds me a lot of Area 8 match this year. Wide open targets, a few gadgets, and just enough rope to hang yourself. Opening ceremonies were last night at an ancient arena and were pretty cool. Sights are beautiful, beaches are topless and food is ok. Good luck with match at izaak Walton this weekend.

Team York proudly presents a double Rifle/Pistol match, Sunday Oct. 9. You may shoot either or both, of a 5 stage, 111 round minimum pistol and a 4 stage, 68 round minimum rifle. Start times will be 9:00 am and 12:30 pm, with registration opening at 8 am and shooters brief 15 min prior to shooting. We will recognize all usual pistol divisions, and Tac-irons, Tac-optics, heavy metal and open rifle.

Please email your name, USPSA#, pistol/rifle, am/pm, divisions and squadding preferences to yorksignup@gmail.com. We will make every effort to honor your requests.

In honor of the uppcoming FNH Multigun, we will be limiting all rifle divisions but for open to 30 round magazine capacity, and I suggest you "know your dope" from 10 to 200 yards, up, down and sideways.

Hello from Greece

We got to Athens yesterday,and it is working out to be quite an adventure. Flight was 9.5 hours long and we lost 7 more to time change. When we got to Athens we found out that the Metro which we planned on taking to the hotel was on strike, and so were the buses, and even the taxis. Luckily we found a private bus company shuttling people to the center of town. It got us to within a little more than a mile from our hotel. Thankfully our suitcases all had wheels because we has to walk about a half hour through some pretty scary neighborhoods. We even saw a group of about a dozen people shooting heroin in broad daylight. A lot of sleeping was in order by the time we got there.

Today the Metro was running, so we were able to take it to the historic district. We toured the Acropolis, the museum and about a dozen other ruins. A lot of very impressive history in this town for sure. Exactly what I imagined. We did a little shopping, a lot of walking and had some pretty good chow.

Tomorrow we have a few more hours in Athens then we take an overnight ferry to the island of Rhodes. Having a great time but looking forward to getting to the shooting.

I'll keep you updated as possible.

Starting with our October match the invitation will be posted solely on our blog at www.yorkpistol.blogspot.com about a week before the match. It will be just like the invitation email and will ask for name, USPSA #, division, and squadding preferences to be sent to our sign up email address as before. That address is yorksignup@gmail.com

We're back, we're tired and we're busting our humps getting ready for World Shoot, but I thought I should report on Nationals. After 4 days of shootig in 100 degree heat Ben came out on top again. He won his 4th High Jumior title. He was also 14th overall, and bested many great shooters.

We leave Tuesday for the World Shoot, so we probably won't see you before we leave but I know you're behind us.

September Funshoot cancelled

I am terribly sorry folks, range conditions are such, that I fear I cannot produce an adequately challenging and safe shoot for you this month. The layer of mud and muck from last week has turned into a layer of peanut butter, gluing everything to the ground and making movement difficult. And with rain predicted at 60% the majority of the week, it isn't looking better.

Therefore there will be no funshoot at all this Saturday (Sept. 24), and the Invitational Team Trophy Funshoot is postponed until October 22nd.

If this presents any scheduling issues, please email me and I'll issue refunds as necessary.

Now that the dust has settled, I would like to take a moment to thank those responsible for Sundays match at York.

First and foremost, you have to understand the enormity of the task, I mean literally 5 feet of water in the stat shack, most everything in there lost; tossed around concrete, a berm lost, most of our props relocated, shooting benches that were actually spotted in Lake Redman. Remember the mud out front? It covered everything in the back too. We had one guy who spent the majority of Saturday shoveling it off the back pits with a coal shovel. The head of our rifle program showed up, shook his head, gave up on his schedule for NEXT year, and left.

Enter the big kahuna himself, Howard, he is mostly to blame for our success; he managed to rally the BEST (and possibly the most insane) match crew in the world to get the job done. Basically living there for 3 days, he rallied us in shifts. Come Saturday when new folks arrived and had that deer in the headlights look, he began the absurd task of building stages amongst the muck. Stages? Are you kidding me? Stages for what?! But it worked, and we pulled it off as a team.

And then there is Chet, head of our trap program, he is relentless. When not helping pistol, he and his crew are working to recover the automatic clay bird throwers that were all under muddy water and now unserviceable until rebuilt, by sometime in the late winter. As of yesterday the water finally receded enough that they could start cleaning up, it will take a while.

And Denny with his bobcat, thanks to him we could get vehicles past the curve, he spent all of Saturday rebuilding the drive, fixing several washouts large enough to eat a VW bug.

So next time you are at a local event, not just at York, remember how it is that you can be, it is the dedication of the volunteer staff and directors, that make it possible.

All systems are go. The road is repaired, but parking is a bit trickey, do not park in the grass if at all possible, it is still very soft. If we run out of space at the range, we can park up by the trap house and walk in.

Bring bug spray, those little flying things are very hungry.

A lot has been done and we're starting to look pretty good. I'm counting on a big turnout tomorrow for set up (10:00am)and if that happens and we don't get anymore rain I expect the match to be go for launch Sunday morning.

It will probably be muddy in spots, the road from the trap building to the ranges is still 4 wheel drive only. Parking is going to be a mess. We lost the berms to pit 8, so we're down a pistol stage. but I'll be surprised if we can't pull off having both the pistol and shotgun matches.

We never quit. We are York Pistol.

Situation report

The situation at York Izaak Walton is bad, but we are working on it.

The storm and subsequent flooding is unlike anything I have ever seen. There is an incredible amount of damage to the ranges, and a lot of stuff is missing. Part of the rifle range was destroyed. I mean concrete slabs ripped out and overturned. Water was at least 5 feet deep inside the stat shack. The refrigerator was turned upside down. Water was so deep it got inside the trailer, and filled every shed. Watermarks at different places show at least 6 feet. All of the props in the back pits were contained by the fences and gates, but is in a big pile in pit 4. The driveway was blocked by a tree in one place and washed out in three with gullies up to 3 feet deep.

Several of us spent most of the day cleaning out the stat shack. We had to shovel mud out, wash everything that can be saved, and throw away or burn a lot of stuff. The road is passable to 4 wheel drives now. I think. Tomorrow we will tackle the trailer, and maybe get to some of the sheds.

Saturday is our scheduled match set-up, and it is now at least part recovery effort. If recovery goes well, we will set up the match. We've got our fingers crossed.

I don't like cancelling matches, and we'll make every effort to host the September USPSA match, and shotgun side match. The decision on the match will be made by 5:00pm Saturday and I will post it here.

We are monitoring the flooding at the ranges closely, yesterday afternoon the water level was to the top of the dumpster up front by the clubhouse, and the porta potties were headed for the lake. I'm thinking start position "first, don the scuba gear....".

September USPSA matches

Sign up has begun for next weekend's matches. There will be a 5 stage 110 round pistol in the back pits, and a 4 stage 60 shot, 4 slug, shotgun match in the front pits. Both will cost $20 and you may shoot either or both.

To sign up email Tom at yorksignup@gmail.com and let him know if you want to shoot one or both matches. If you're only shooting pistol let him know whether you want to shoot at 9:00am or 1:00pm. If you're shooting both I'll squad you accordingly so I can keep things balanced. Also, be sure your email includes your name, USPSA #, division for both guns (they may be different) and anyone you wish to be squadded with. Do not hesitate to sign up if you intend to shoot. We will only be taking 80 pistol shooters, and 48 shotgun shooters.

Shotgun divisions include Limited, Open, and Pump as defined by USPSA and Outlaw Open which is unrestricted in any way. Saiga owners bring your drums!

August Fun Shoot

This month, we can expect some wonderful stages built by those USPSA folks, as well as the usual clays, bowling pins, bull's-eye and the ever so popular return of REDDAWN!

Round count, as always is just under 100, and food and drink will be available for purchase.

Of Special Note this month: Saturday is a "road cleanup day", sponsored by our club, York IWLA 67. In lieu of helping to setup the funshoot, I would ask those of you who can, to show up a bit early and give a hand to the cleanup crew. They meet at the clubhouse at 8:00am and will have coffee and donuts available for breakfast. I will not need setup help this month, so you can work the cleanup instead.

I WILL DELAY THE START OF THE FUNSHOOT UNTIL 10:30AM (registration starts at 9:30) IN SUPPORT OF THIS EFFORT, AND GIVE A $5 DISCOUNT TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATE IN THE ROAD CLEANUP FOR AN HOUR OR TWO.

Otherwise, the fee is $15 for adults, $5 for kids under 18, no preregistration is required. Scoring is optional

I'll admit to be being obstinate, but we're still moving forward with the August match. The weather tonight wasn't nearly as bad as threatened, and what if tomorrow isn't as bad as forecast either?

There will be changes to our plans for sure, but barring a dramatic turn for the worst we will be shooting. Let's find out who the real shooters are.

Impending weather

The weather is weighing heavily upon my mind. I am not prepared to cancel tomorrow's match at this point but I do want to inform you of the possibility. We do not give in easily at York and at this point we are moving full speed ahead towards having the match as planned. We are however making preparations and contingency plans.

A. If you are signed up for this match, but are making a long trip and want to cancel out we will not hold it against you. Please email us at yorksignup@gmail.com and let us know so we can inform the people on the waiting list.

B. If the weather that is forecast does in fact occur we reserve the right to cancel the match or shorten the match to the 7 stages already set up in the back pits. We do not intend to do it, but we would rather run and shoot 7 stages in 2-3 hours than 12 stages in the 4-5 it could take if it's raining.

C. Please check your email in the morning before setting off. I get off work between midnight and 2:00am this morning. I will assess the current data again at that time which should lead me to a more informed decision. I will send an email and post to the blog one way or the other, so before you set off in the morning you will have some idea what to expect.

D. If it looks like we are shooting, and it may rain, be prepared. Bring towels, rain jackets, umbrellas, trash bags etc.

August USPSA match

On Sunday, August 14th we will be hosting a 12 stage, 180 round +/- USPSA pistol match at York Izaak Walton in Dallastown PA. The match fee will be $20 and this match is a little different from our normal matches. We will trying to shoot as close to IPSC as possible. We will be following the 3 small, 2 medium, to 1 large course ratio. We are using all classic/international paper targets. We are painting our steel different colors. The courses although smaller than usual are much more technical for the most part. There are a lot of movers and no-shoots. We will also be loaded gun starts, unloaded gun starts, and mag inserted but chamber empty starts. There is strong hand only shooting, weak hand shooting, and seated shooting. There will also be 2 retreat stages.

This is however, a USPSA match and we will be using USPSA rules and divisions, except we will be allowing Production division to load 15 rounds in the magazines which is the way IPSC does it and should be fun for everyone.

We are encouraging shooters from the World Shoot teams to come and I know several of them are.

We will be limiting the number of shooters to 80 (8 squads of 10) and we expect to start shooting around 10:30 and be done by around 2:30. We will have food and drink available for purchase. Registration will be from 9:15 until 10:00. Don't be late we need to start this thing on time.

The PA State Steel Challenge is finally upon us.

- We will be at the range at 7:00am to register shooters Saturday morning. The shooter briefing will be at 7:45am and all shooters should be registered and geared up by then. Shooting will start promptly at 8:00am.

- Registration for the Saturday 1:00pm time slot starts at 12:00pm or if you're shooting am and pm you can do both in the am. The afternoon shooter briefing will take place at 12:45pm and we will be shooting by 1:00pm.

- Registration for Sunday morning will begin at 8:00am, the shooter briefing will take place at 8:45am and we will be shooting at 9:00am.

- Lunch, drinks, and snacks will be available for purchase both days, but breakfast will not be.

- Please drive slowly entering and exiting club grounds.

The Mid-Atlantic Section Championship is full. We are no longer taking applications. Everything is going as planned and we are looking forward to hosting another great match.

Frequently asked questions include:

-What time do we start/finish?
The Saturday morning shooters should be on the grounds by 7:00am to get registered and gear up for a 7:45 match briefing and an 8:00am start. We're running small squads Saturday am and if things go well they should be done by 12:30pm at the latest.
The Saturday afternoon squads should be on grounds by 12:00pm to register and gear up for a 12:45 match briefing and 1:00pm start. We're hoping the afternoon squads will be done around 4:30pm.
The Sunday morning squads should be on site by 8:00am to register and gear upfor a 8:45 match briefing and 9:00am start. We're hoping to have Sunday's shooters finished by 1:00pm or so.

-Will there be food and drinks available?
Yes, the same group who did the concessions for the "Summer Blasts" in the past years wil be doing the food and drinks. They will be there for lunch both days and they will be offering a variety of food and beverages including some healthier choices, but they will not be doing breakfast. Please eat breakfast on the way to the range in the am.

- Will there be a chrono this year?
Oh yeah! We have the exact same set up they use at Nationals and we tested at our last local match. Be prepared.

This months FunShoot will be this Saturday, May 28th.

I am planning an 8 stage, 96ish round challenging shoot with things that break, fall, ring, move, splat and a few that just lay there, for your shooting pleasure. This is open to any standard pistol caliber handgun and carbine, with pretty much any capacity higher than 2 rounds.

We will be working around the stages for the upcoming Mid Atlantic Section Match (Nod, Nod, Wink, Wink), and we will be heavy on steel, I know you folks like that.

Setup at 8:30, registration 9:00ish, Shooter walkabout at 9:45ish, shooting by 10:00ish.
Dogs and drinks will be available for sale.

May Fun Shoot

Ok, I'm not the real Fun Shoot Match Director, and I'm sure he'll post the real Fun Shoot plug here in the next day or two, but I want to tell all you USPSA shooters something. I've been saying for years what a great thing the fun shoot is. That it helps us focus on sight in, and accuracy, and trigger skills, etc. This month there is an added bonus for the competitors signed up for the Mid-Atlantic Section Championship: The walls for the back 4 stages of the MASC are up. The steel is in place. Gary is going to embed these features into the May Fun Shoot. They won't be the stages we're going to use for the MASC, but they will have certain elements in common. At the very least you'll get an idea what the dimensions of the stages will be, and you'll be able to piscture the diagrams in the actual pits. You'll know exactly how far the steel is, and what the angles of engagement of the paper will likely be. There have been a few minor changes from the diagrams and they will be known ahead of time to those who either help set them up or shoot the Fun Shoot. I'm not telling you you'll have an unfair advantage, I'm just sayin...

There are a few slots available for Saturday morning, but the entry fee has increased to $100, and late entries don't get free t-shirts either. This year's shirts are very cool. It's more or less the same design we used the last two years, but this year we went with a monotone black imprint on military green shirts. Very tactical.

Today as Greg and I were teaching a USPSA Basic Skills class we told the shooters something I want to remind all of you: The basic skills are the foundation of all the shooting we do. We all need to maintain these most elementary fundamentals and we do so only by practicing them diligently.

It may not seem sexy to practice the draw or reload dozens of times. You may think you're above repetitive movement exercises. Maybe transition drills bore you. Strong hand, weak hand, movers, the list of these basics goes on and on. But even the most complex stages are nothing more than a series of these simple skill tests strung together. A basic skill mastered is a tool. Whe you have enough tools in your tool box you can do anything. Start collecting these tools and when a stage requires a certain thing you'll have what you need.

Instead of spending your time practicing stages because they are more fun use your time to actually MASTER some of the basics. The very best in our sport aren't there because they know some secret tricks you don't. They are the best because they have mastered every imaginable basic skill. When it comes time to shoot a stage they use these very basic skill sets and weave them together like a composer does an symphony. They have practiced the simple things until they become AUTOMATIC. That is where the magic is.

I surprised everyone with a chronograph at our match last weekend. The primary purpose was to work all the bugs out for next month's Mid-Atlantic Section Championship, but the CED set-up was flawless and very easy to set up and run. We also wanted to just run it unannounced to make sure everyone was being honest. I caught a few people who were either still working on their loads or were trusting the books. Overall I think it was a positive experience for most people. A lot of shooters are right on the edge and now have a little more info to work with. I'm sure a lot of people will be bumping their powder measure up a tenth this week.

Weather for this weekends USPSA match

The forecast for the match Sunday looks good, but the weather betwen here and there is a little questionable. We are still moving forward, and fully intend to shoot as planned. We may be wearing boots with our shorts because of the mud, but at least we should be able to take our rain jackets off before we start shooting, and the footing on most of ranges is good even when wet.

If the weather would take a turn for the worst I will announce any changes here. You may want to check this site Sunday morning. I will make the final decision when I get home from work very late Saturday night, or very early Sunday morning.

Again, the forecast for Sunday is very promising, and we don't cancel matches easily at York. We're just hard-headed like that.

April USPSA matches

Sunday, April 10th York Izaak Walton league will be hosting two USPSA matches.

One will be a pistol match consisting of at least 4 stages and 110 rounds, and probably a 5th if the weather cooperates (and 122 rounds). It will cost $20, and you can shoot it either at 10:00am or 1:00pm. There will not be a classifier this month, and we will recognize all of the normal USPSA divisions and carbine. (pistol calibers only)

The other will be a rifle match and will be 3 stages for a total of 84 rounds. The Match Director for rifle is Greg Jordan, so you know you're going to have to work for this one. This match will also cost $20 and you can shoot it at either 10:00am or 1:00pm. We will recognize 3 divisions of rifles. Limited (may now have non-magnified optic), Tactical, and Open per USPSA rules.

To sign up for either or both email us at yorksignup@gmail.com and tell us your name, USPSA #, which match or matches you want to shoot, your division for each (they are two seperate matches so you can shoot two different divisions) and any squadding preferences.

You should receive an email in a day or two confirming your entry and containing more details.

Do not hesitate to get signed up, we are only taking 36 pistol shooters and 24 rifle shooters for each time slot. We expect these matches to fill up quickly.

A few important details regarding our 3 man 3 gun Sunday:

The schedule:
8:00 we will finish set-up - all help is appreciated

9:00 - 9:20 Captains check in at the stat shack. If there are any changes in division be sure to let us know at check in.

9:30 Captains briefing - I will take all of the captains around for a really short stage introduction.

As soon as the captains return from the stage tour we will do a short match briefing and send the squads out.

- All firearms must be unloaded prior to entering club grounds, and remain that way all day, unless under RO supervision. Your vehicle is not a safe area. If you are a CCW holder please leave it locked in vehicle. If you're using you carry gun for the match unload it at home and keep a loaded mag handy.

- It is acceptable to carry long guns from stage to stage in cases, on carts, or muzzle up. We just don't want to see them carried haphazardly. We will require everyone to use a chamber flag in all long guns. We will be giving them away at the stat shack if you don't have them.

- We will be preloading shotguns on some stages, but only under RO supervision. Even then the guns must have empty chambers. You will be instructed when and how to do this. Don't do it until told by an RO.

- Whenever a gun is staged on a table, or laid down during a course of fire it must either have the safety on, or be unloaded with an empty chamber. The penalty for leaving a firearm in an unsafe manner will be a match DQ. At no point in this match will anyone be downrange of any guns loaded or unloaded.

- Unsafe gun handling will result in a match DQ. If you don't know be sure to ask.

- At times your team will firing from a common firing line at the same time, be especially mindful of the 180 in these situations. The stages that require this will be set up to be extremely safe, but be careful, especially during reloads, draws etc.

- Stacking of shots will never be allowed on any of the stages. It will result in a zero for the stage. An example of stacking would be on stage 1 where 6 shots are required on each target, and each shooter is supposed to shoot 2 on each target, some team decides the fastest way would be for the first shooter to shoot 6 on each of the first 4 targets, then the second shooter to just shoot 6 each on the next 4 targets, then the last shooter to shoot 6 on each of the last 4. On this stage every shooter must engage every target at least twice. Stage 6 also requires two shooters to engage the same targets, so both shooters must engage each target there at least twice.

- We will be using palm pilots for scoring. On the palms clay birds and drink bottles will be scored as "steel". One pellet hole in either a clay or a drink bottle will count as a hit. If a drink bottle is knocked down but doesn't have a hole in it we consider it a miss, not a range equipment failure.

- At this match you may never shoot paper with a shotgun. The penalty is one procedural for each occurrence.

- At this match you may never shoot clay birds with either a rifle or a pistol. The penalty is one procedural per occurrence, and you will be responsible for damage to clay bird holder(s) if there is any.

- At this match you may never shoot steel closer than 80 yards with a rifle. The penalty for this is a match DQ, and you will be responsible for any damage to the steel.

- We do not allow green tip, AP, API, penetrator, tracers, steel core, or any other kind of bullets that may damage our steel, or are more prone to ricochet at our club. The penalty for using this ammo is a match DQ and you will be responsible for any damage caused by it. FMJ, HP, polymer tip, or soft points are allowed as long as the core is lead, sintered materials, or something safe.

- If a member of a team is DQed, the rest of the team may continue without him.

Just so you know, we've been running these 3 man 3 guns for years at York, and no one has ever been DQed. We just want you to know ahead of time some of the things that are unacceptable.

- The minimum caliber for pistol is 9mm, rifle is .223, and shotgun is 20ga. We will be scoring everything as major.

-Everyone on your team must meet division requirements and shoot in the same division. Change them at check-in if you need to.

Divisions we will be using:
Limited - iron sighted handguns, iron sighted shotguns, rifle may have iron sights or one non-magnified dot scope. No porting on pistol or shotgun. Shotgun capactiy 8+1. Pistol mags limited to 140mm in length.

Tactical - iron sighted handguns, iron sighted shotguns, rifle may have one scope, and it may be magnified (or dot with magnifier). No porting on pistol or shotgun. Shotgun capactiy 8+1. Pistol mags limited to 140mm in length.

Open - scopes and porting allowed on all guns. Rifle may have more than one scope. Shotgun capactiy 10+1. Pistol mags limited to 170mm in length.

Outlaw Open - anything goes, unlimited capacities, drums for Saigas are fine.

- No guns may be used on full auto, though if you keep the selector on semi it is OK. Full auto = DQ. Supressors are encouraged in Open and Outlaw.

- We will have food and drinks available for purchase. Bring some ones and quarters please.

- Please drive slowly entering and exiting the club grounds. The club speed limit is 10mph.

March Fun Shoot

This month's funshoot is this Saturday, the 26th, and we are back in full swing, with lots of steel, poppers, floppers and the wicked wheel. Our old friends choose your own (modified this year), PPC/Bull's-eye, the gallery, and two stages I'll just keep to myself. Super simple scoring. No pre-registration is necessary for this shoot.

An important change this year, I am lifting the 6 round minimum capacity requirement. this means that if you want to bring your Lady Smith, bring it, you just cant shoot for score, and will only be able to run 5 rounds on the 6 round stages. This doesn't apply to single shot things like TC's, that would just take way too long.

Pistol caliber carbines are welcome.

Round count is around 100, setup at 8:30, registration 9:00 to 9:30, shooting by 10:00.

The other will be shotgun match and according to Shotgun Match Director of the month Gary Swope will consist of "4 stages, 35 shot, 8 slug minimum, and I stress the minimum. Slugs to 50 yards, shot to 25 or 30. Expect a fair amount of loading, movement and rudeness. Make sure you are on your game". This match will also cost $20 and you can shoot it at either 10:00am or 1:00pm. We will recognize 4 divisions of shotguns. Pump (4+1 capacity), Limited (8+1 capacity), Open (10+1 capacity, porting, scopes) and Outlaw Open (anything goes, even drums)

To sign up for either or both email us at yorksignup@gmail.com and tell us your name, USPSA #, which match or matches you want to shoot, your division for each (they are two seperate matches so you can shoot two different divisions) and any squadding preferences.

The welcome back nice weather shooting tip

So Spring is here and you're itching to burn up the ammo you've been loading all winter. We all are. But take this friendly advice to heart. Start out slow and simple. Don't expect to be as fast as you were at the end of last season. Months of TV and holiday parties didn't make you any better. In fact, if you're human like the rest of us you're rusty.

Start off with the basics. Every Spring Ben and I do an entire practice working on the draw, the reload, and shooting nothing but As. We start off ridiculously close to the targets and work ourselves away from them progressively, only as fast as we can hit all As. We also put a lot of emphasis on being smooth and efficient in both the draw and the reload. The mechanics are more important than the speed at this point. In fact we only use the timer for a start signal. We go as fast as we can shoot all As. No faster. If we're not shooting all As we're either going too fast or too far away. It's better to slow down on this set of drills. Time doesn't matter until you are nearing perfection. We try to work our way back to 50 yards doing this. If we're shooting well enough we make it back there pretty quickly. If we're not we stay close as long as it takes.

These simple skills are used on every stage and are the foundation you have to build properly in order to do everything else well. Transitions, and movement are equally important but wait until you put a day or two in on these basics and it will pay off in the long run.

Steel Challenge results with payouts

First, let me explain the procedure we used for figuring these out:

All divison winners get $40, and in divisions with 10 or more shooters 2nd in division gets $30. In divisions with 15 or more 3rd gets $20 unless they win their class which pays $20 anyway.

Class winners within each division get $20 with a 3 shooter minimum (not counting division winners) 2nd in class with more than 7 shooters gets $10. We're not doing payouts smaller than $10 so third is irrelevant this match.

We had a lot of classifed shooters so that part was easy. To classify people without USPSA classifications I used the average scores of classified shooters and assigned classifications to those witout them based on whether they were better or worse than those averages.

Is it a perfect system? No, but it does get some people further down the list some money back for their efforts, without relying on dumb luck scoring(lewis) and it gives unclassified shooters a chance to win too. Many of them did.

Winners: Your envelopes will be available at the next York USPSA match or Steel Challenge.

I'm really glad I cut off sign up when I did! Some good people were left out today, but the squads were already huge, and the day was very long. But, from all reports everyone had a good time. Kirk and I thank everyone who came out today and shot and especially those who worked to make this thing happen. From what we saw the experienced guys did a great job of working the rust out, and the new guys did really well too. We look froward to shooting with all of you again this season.

Steel Challenge 3/13

All systems are go for tomorrows match. Please remember to wear boots. Things are a bit muddy. If this were a USPSA match footing would be treacherous, but for a stand and shoot Steel Challenge match we'll be fine.

All the bridges in the area are open, so getting to the club will be easy.

We will be shooting 7 stages, so I recommend bringing 200 rounds or more. You should make up misses and there is always the possibility of a reshoot.

The match is still full.

We will start set-up at 9:00am and all help is appreciated.
Registration will begin at 10:00am and close at 10:30am. We will be shooting by 11:00am at the latest.
We will have hot dogs and drinks available for purchase.
Please drive slowly entering and exiting the club.

Remember we need everyone signed up by 10:30 at the latest.

Did I mention you're going to want to wear boots?

If you show up for the work detail tomorrow you may want to park up front. As you can see the walnut grove is a little wet.

Pit 7 has a litle water left in it. Keep in mind it had quit raining several hours before this picture and the water level in the creek had already dropped over 2 feet, and was back in it's banks.

Pit 8. I guess we won't be using it this weekend, unless you want to waterski or something.
